Two Day Painting Residency
This October, artist Lauren Jones and The Woodshed invite guests to gather in the heart of the Noosa Hinterland for two days of painting, exceptional food and country hospitality.
Set between the rustic elegance of The Woodshed recently awarded “Best Destination Dining 2026” by Gourmet Traveller and the heritage charm of the Kin Kin Hotel, this intimate retreat offers an opportunity to step away from the pace of everyday life and immerse yourself in the quiet pleasures of observation, creativity and slow country living.
Guided by Lauren's expressive alla prima (painting wet on wet) approach, participants will spend two days exploring the beauty of seasonal flowers, gathered garden blooms and the still life traditions that have long inspired painters. Working from thoughtfully curated arrangements and reference material, you'll learn to simplify form, mix luminous colour, create harmonious compositions and develop confident, expressive brushwork that captures both the character of the subject and the vitality of paint itself.
Designed for beginners through to intermediate painters, the retreat balances practical demonstrations with individual guidance, allowing each participant to build confidence while developing a deeper understanding of tone, colour relationships, composition and intuitive mark-making. Through a series of studies and sustained painting sessions, guests will work towards creating resolved oil paintings inspired by the richness of flowers and the enduring beauty of country life.
Beyond the creative workshop, the experience unfolds through shared meals, meaningful conversation and generous hospitality. Guests will enjoy farmhouse breakfasts, seasonal lunches and an unforgettable seven-course degustation by Head Chef Oscar Holgado, whose experience in Michelin-starred kitchens.
As the fire is lit and the evening settles over the Hinterland, the chefs work in the centre of the restaurant and serve to table in the simple celebration of hospitality, craftsmanship and gathering around the table.
With only ten places available, this retreat has been designed as a deeply personal experience where creativity, connection and conversation come together. Whether you are beginning your painting journey or looking to deepen an existing practice, these two days offer an invitation to slow down, look closely and rediscover the joy of painting in one of Queensland's most beautiful country settings.

ITINERARY
Thursday 29th October | The Kin Kin Hotel
9am – Guest arrival and check-in
Check into your heritage accommodation at The Kin Kin Hotel and have a welcome fresh tea or barista coffee.
9.30am– 1pm Welcome gathering & introduction to painting with Lauren Jones
Meet Lauren and your fellow participants over a welcome drink. Lauren will introduce her expressive alla prima painting approach, sharing insights into her creative process, colour mixing, composition and the art of capturing a subject with confidence and spontaneity.
1pm-1.45pm Light working lunch in the Creative Space
1.45pm-5pm Begin painting under Lauren’s guidance, working from a carefully curated arrangement of seasonal flowers and objects. Through demonstrations and individual tuition, explore observation, brushwork and colour relationships.
5pm -freshen up for dinner
6pm – Approx. 9:30pm – The Woodshed degustation dinner
Enjoy a seasonal multi-course dining experience showcasing the best of the Noosa Hinterland, cooked entirely over fire.(please confirm any dietaries upon booking)
Overnight – Heritage accommodation
Retire to your beautifully restored Queen Room at The Kin Kin Hotel. (Please note that due to the heritage nature of the building, bathrooms are shared rather than ensuite.)
Friday 30th October
8:00am – Shared farmhouse breakfast at The Woodshed
9am – 12:30pm – Painting workshop: Flowers, colour & composition
Continue developing your oil painting skills through demonstrations and guided exercises. Learn Lauren’s approach to simplifying complex subjects, mixing luminous colour and creating expressive, confident brushwork while working from fresh floral arrangements.
12:30pm – 1:30pm – Seasonal shared lunch at The Kin Kin Hotel
1:30pm – 3pm – Studio session: Complete your final painting
Refine your work with one-on-one guidance from Lauren as you bring your painting to completion. Participants will leave with a finished artwork and a deeper understanding of Lauren’s distinctive painting process.
3pm – Residency concludes & farewell

After October 15th no cancellations can be made.
The creative workshop space is 50 yards up the hill from the Kin Kin Hotel. It is indoor outdoor- covered, but with no wall. Please bring warm clothing incase of inclement Queensland weather conditions.
The workshop must have a minimum number of participants in order to proceed. In the event of insufficient participants, attendees will be notified and refunded.
