This November we are delighted to welcome Lauren Jones back to The Kin Kin Hotel with Heritage, a meditation on the table, on eating and living, set within the architecture and quiet charm of Australia’s heritage homes.

Creaky timber floorboards, handcrafted chairs and freshly picked produce provide the backdrop for an imagined world of fictional characters. Steeped in the feminine and inspired by motherhood, family and rural life, the collection explores the stories held in the details of everyday living. Less a record of the past than an invitation into an imagined one

“Heritage is a meditation on the table, on eating and living, set within the spaces and architecture of Australia’s heritage homes and the yesteryear notions of country life. Creaky timber floorboards, handcrafted chairs, freshly picked produce: a fine living, but make it earthy.

Part portraiture, part figures in the landscape, the collection is an eclectic wander through fictional characters in rooms that nod to an older time. Long skirts, fine porcelain, golden teapots, a woman reading by the window. Fashion sits at the heart of the series, and I’m intrigued by the place it holds within these old homes, how a hem, a sleeve or a sash tells its own story of the life being lived.

Steeped in the feminine, the work draws from what I know and am most drawn to paint: my experience as a mother and sister, and the world I share with my daughter. It is shaped, too, by life in the rural countryside and the colours and tones that come with it, soft, weathered and warm.”

Heritage is less a record of the past than an invitation into an imagined one.”

Lauren Jones At The Kin Kin Hotel

“I’ve admired Lauren’s work since arriving in Australia, captivated by her ability to capture the fleeting beauty of everyday life. Having followed her practice, attended her workshops and welcomed her to Kin Kin for our own creative residencies, it is a pleasure to exhibit her work within the heritage walls we’ve lovingly restored. I hope visitors find a moment of quiet enjoyment in this “Heritage” exhibition – and perhaps an original painting to take home.”
